General information about the degree

The Higher Technician in Automotive course trains you to organise and supervise vehicle maintenance in a workshop. You will learn to diagnose complex faults, follow regulations and manufacturer instructions, and run a workshop from start to finish. Work placements in companies are part of the programme, so you will get to know real working life before you start a job.

Over the two years you will study electrical and safety systems, combustion engines, transmission and running gear, and the structure and bodywork of the vehicle. You will also cover maintenance management and logistics, and communication skills. Afterwards you could work as a workshop or electromechanical manager, a vehicle appraiser, a parts or bodywork and paint manager, or in vehicle inspection centres, car rental firms and insurance companies.

If you enjoy understanding how a car works inside and also organising a team, this course gives you a solid base. Later you can continue with specialisation courses, for example in maintenance of hybrid and electric vehicles.
