What is a professional family?
It is the set of courses in one sector, such as Health, IT and Communications, or Administration and Management. Each family has basic, intermediate and higher qualifications, and each can be taken at many institutions.
What a vocational course is like
Intermediate and higher courses usually take two years and include training in companies. An intermediate course leads on to a higher one, and a higher technician qualification gives access to university.
How to choose your course
Think about the sector you see yourself working in, then look at its family's courses, where they are taught, whether the institutions are public or private and what they cost. If you are not sure of the sector yet, try the guidance test.
