General information about the degree

This two-year higher vocational course prepares you to design and make metal products, such as tanks, boilerwork, structures and industrial pipes. By the end you will know how to calculate parts, prepare technical documents and organise production from start to finish. During the course you will also do work placements in companies in the sector.

You will learn to draw and design with CAD software, to define how metal is cut, shaped and joined, and to programme numerically controlled machines and robots. You will also see how to plan production and look after quality, workplace safety and the environment. Afterwards you could work as a technical draughtsman, production planner, fabrication supervisor or workshop manager in boilermaking, shipbuilding, petrochemical or transport industries.

This may suit you if you enjoy drawing parts and seeing them become something real, and if you can picture yourself leading a team in an industrial workshop.
